Internship at EXIAS: Four Voices, One Verdict

Sep 23, 2026

This summer, EXIAS once again welcomed several interns. We asked four of them — Marie, Ian, Philip, and Diana — a few questions about their tasks, the team atmosphere, what they learned, and whether they'd recommend an internship with us.

Marie

Team: Analytical Performance
Position: Intern Lab Engineer

What was your role at EXIAS, and which project did you work on?
During my internship, I was part of the Analytics team and worked actively in two different labs, where I ran various measurement series on blood, plasma, and aqueous solutions every day. I regularly worked with syringes, capillaries, and pipettes, and also used the centrifuge and the tonometer as part of my tasks, to ensure reliable and precise results.

In your experience, what defines EXIAS and #TeamEXIAS?
I was warmly welcomed into the team from day one and was able to make an active contribution. What I valued most was the collegial atmosphere and the straightforward way everyone worked together as equals.

What did you learn during your internship that will help you in your future career?
I gained a comprehensive insight into just how closely R&D works hand in hand with other departments. I was also able to improve my precision in how I work and gain valuable hands-on experience with personal responsibility.

Would you recommend an internship at EXIAS? If so, to whom?
Yes, I'd absolutely recommend an internship here – in fact, this was already my second time in a row, in the same position and department. I'd particularly recommend it to students from scientific or technical fields. Anyone who wants to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, growing environment is in exactly the right place.

Ian

Team: Produktion
Position: Intern Operations

What was your role at EXIAS, and which project did you work on?
My task was to test a concept for a new batch testing process and subsequently implement it.

In your experience, what defines EXIAS and #TeamEXIAS?
The working atmosphere is very good. One reason for that is certainly that the whole EXIAS team is helpful, skilled, and friendly. Various after-work activities, like playing volleyball or hiking, also strengthen team spirit, which you can feel in everyday work as well. That's how I got to know a lot of people and made real friendships.

What did you learn during your internship that will help you in your future career?
Above all, I learned to work independently. That included developing my own ideas and solutions, communicating them, and implementing them on my own. You also gain valuable insight into the industry and pick up knowledge that helps both in your studies and later in your career.

Would you recommend an internship at EXIAS? If so, to whom?
Yes, definitely – especially to students in scientific programs such as Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics, who get the chance to apply their academic knowledge in practice.

Diana

Team: Sensor Development
Position: Intern Chemistry Lab

What was your role at EXIAS, and which project did you work on?
I was part of the Sensor Chemistry team and helped prepare solutions and precursor products for the biosensor, take measurements of solutions, and carry out the chemical inventory.

In your experience, what defines EXIAS and #TeamEXIAS?
The great dynamic and the pleasant working atmosphere. The team is relaxed, open, and easygoing – especially my mentor – and you're not put under unnecessary pressure, but rather encouraged by a motivating environment.

What did you learn during your internship that will help you in your future career?
My internship at EXIAS gave me a first real insight into working life. I learned how important teamwork and good communication are for working successfully together. I also got to experience how theoretical knowledge is applied in practice, and how important personal responsibility, reliability, and a structured way of working are in everyday professional life.

Would you recommend an internship at EXIAS? If so, to whom?
Yes, absolutely! I'd recommend it to my fellow students.

Philip

Team: Sensor Development
Position: Intern Sensor Development

What was your role at EXIAS, and which project did you work on?
I mainly worked in the chemistry lab, where I was primarily responsible for preparing solutions and supporting the planning of experiments.

In your experience, what defines EXIAS and #TeamEXIAS?
For me, what defines the team is the friendly, collegial way everyone interacts as equals. The hierarchies are also flat, and all colleagues are nice, friendly, and helpful – which makes for a really good working atmosphere.

What did you learn during your internship that will help you in your future career?
I was able to try out new tasks and apply what I'd learned in my studies. In the process, I learned not to shy away from taking initiative and solving problems on my own.

Would you recommend an internship at EXIAS? If so, to whom?
Definitely – especially to students in scientific fields (chemistry, physics, biomedical engineering, etc.) who are interested in medical technology.

A Wide Range of Opportunities at EXIAS

Four areas of responsibility, four personalities – and one unanimous verdict: all four would recommend an internship at EXIAS, especially to students from scientific or technical fields such as Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics.

EXIAS offers far more than just an internship: from R&D to production and quality management, all the way to Marketing & Distribution and second-level customer support, everything is handled in-house. That means there's a correspondingly wide range of ways to get started – not just as an intern, but also through the positions we regularly have open. And we're always happy to receive speculative applications, too.
